A day in the life of.....

Today I was at work thinking about how it's been a while since we've posted anything. Since I was sitting in my cube, camera phone in hand, I thought I would take some quick pictures so that everyone could see "A day in the life of Cody", aka..... where I work.

Sorry this is such bad picture quality, but I didn't want to look weird walking around taking pictures with my camera. Some security guard would probably chase me down if I did that. This is the entrance of my building (Exciting huh?), it's 1 of 5 here in Round Rock, there are 5 others at another location in Austin. Each building holds probably 2-5,000 people....

This is the long hallway that leads to my cube.... it's like a giant cubical parking garage. The light at the end of the tunnel (poor picture quality) is what I see when walking out at the end of the day.

When I stand up this is what I see.... a sea of cubes with the windows way off in the distance. But, at least I'm tall, there are many people who can't see over the cube walls. There are windows closer to my cube, but if I took a picture of those it would lose all affects. This is one wing of four on my floor. There are three floors in my building.... if that helps with the whole size thing.

This is my cube.... all cubes in the building are the same size. This is where I sit 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I try my best to make 3 1/2 gray fabric walls seem "homey", but you can only do so much.

We do have an on site gym which is awesome... I try to come three days a week at lunch, but sometimes I get busy (i.e., lazy).

So there you have it.... for all of you out there who have ever thought "I wonder what it looks like where Cody works" you no longer have to imagine.

Our Crazy Weekend

This weekend was an exciting one.... and for the first weekend in a while we had plans Friday and Saturday!

Friday we went to Karaoke for a Yelp.com party with some of our friends. It was a blast. Madelyn wasn't up for much singing but I had no problem rockin' the mic. I sang Wham "Wake me up before you go go", Journey "Seperate Ways", Justin Timberlake "Rock your Body" and Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody". We had a ton of fun.

(Me and Angela rockin' Bohemian Rhapsody.... I found that hat on the stage... I probably have lice now)

(Anyone familiar with Bohemian Rhapsody knows what part of the song this is)

On Satuday night we went back over to our friend Tobi's house for some more Rock Band and the BEST brisket we had ever tasted. Her husband woke up at 6:30 that morning and started smoking the brisket.... by 8:00pm it was ready to eat. It was AMAZING. Thanks to Tobi and Kris for having us over and letting us eat life changing brisket.... and of course, letting us play more Rock Band!

Today we took the puppy over to my mom's house for some lunch and then to the park to play. Every time he is in the car he pops his head above the seats to make sure we are there. We finally were able to get a picture of this. It's a lot of fun to look in your rear view mirror and see this..... get ready... this is pretty dang cute....

We played at the park for a couple of hours with his new bassett hound friend Blue Bonnet. He was so tired that when he got home he could barely walk into the house. Here is a great picture of him and Madelyn at the park today. Yesterday was cold (40 degrees) and rainy and today was nearly 75 and sunny.... the weather here is crazy.

One last note. This weekend we had to make our bed after we washed the sheets. We haven't quite figured out the best way to put our duvet cover back on our blanket. Our method right now is for me to stand in the duvet cover inside out and have Madelyn hand me the corners. Then she pulls the duvet over my head while I keep holding on to the corners. Madelyn finds this SO funny that she left me holding the blanket (while inside the duvet cover) while she grabbed our camera.

Tagged!

I have been tagged by several fellow bloggers, but I liked this one because I get to brag about my wonderful husband instead of myself! I'm also feeling especially lovey in the spirit of Valentine's Day. So, in case you didn't already know:

How long have you been married? It will be 2 years in April

How long did you date? Forever! We got married on the 5th anniversary of our first official date (...so, 5 years).

How old is he? He just turned the big 2-5

Who said I love you first?
I did, but it was kind of an accident.

Who kissed who first? He did, but I had to do some serious hinting.

Who asked out who first? He did. Actually, he kept trying to ask me out, but I didn't get it. We were really good friends for a couple of years before we started dating and he kept calling me and saying things like "you want to hang out tonight" and I would be like "uh, I don't know what I am doing yet" because I didn't know that he was trying to ask me out. Finally he made it really clear when he called me on like a Wednesday and asked me to go to dinner and a movie that Friday night - like a date (I'm pretty sure he said something like that). Then I was like "OH! Okay!"

Who proposed? Technically? He did. We kept talking a lot about it for a while. He went and picked out a ring by himself, though. One night he picked me up at work and told me that he had a surprise for me and I had to wear a blindfold. I didn't really think that it was coming because he does sweet stuff like that all the time. So, I wore a blindfold and he drove to Sugarhouse Park - where we first kissed. He led me into the grass, took the blindfold off and brought out the ring. He said some very sweet and romantic things, we smiled and hugged and kissed and jumped up and down and the rest is history!

Who eats more? Cody for sure. He has got 6 inches and about 70 pounds on me, though, so it makes sense that he would need more food.

Who is taller? Cody is, by 6 inches.

Who is smarter? I think that is hard to say - it depends on your definition of smart. I am constantly amazed at the things that Cody is able to pull out of that brain of his - especially music wise. He can probably list every song on every album he owns in order, list the band members, tell you the year they produced the album, the date he went to the concert, etc. (I'm not even exaggerating!) Also, he kicks my butt at computer stuff. He is much better at History and Science than me. I did pretty well in school, though. I guess when we have kids, I will help them with Math and English homework and Cody will do History and Science!

Who does laundry? Me for sure. I am very particular about the way the laundry is done. Sometimes I need a little help being motivated, but I definitely have a system and I don't like other people messing with it.

Who does the dishes? Cody does a lot of the dishes. We have a dishwasher though, so it usually consists of Cody rinsing the dishes and handing them to me to load in the dishwasher. Surprise, surprise - I am also very particular about the way the dishwasher is loaded! I also unload the clean dishes because Cody hates putting them away. It works out really well for us.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Let's see, we have lived in 3 places since we have been married. In SLC I slept on the right, at Cody's mom's I slept on the left, and at this apartment I sleep on the left. But Cody always sleeps closest to the door.

Who pays the bills? I pay the bills. Cody is good at a whole lot of things. Paying bills is not one of them, and he has always hated doing it. Plus, I kind of like managing the money. Again, it works out really well for us.

Who mows the lawn? Right now we don't have a lawn. Cody does all of the manly chores, though - taking out the garbage, plunging, replacing lightbulbs, etc. I assume mowing the lawn will fall into that category (once we get a lawn!).

Who cooks dinner? I used to cook dinner every night, when we got home at the same time. Now, I have to stay at work later and I would bet it is about 50/50. I am often surprised to come home to a hot meal just coming out of the oven! It's awesome.

Who drives when you are together? Cody does pretty much always. Cody really likes to drive, and I really don't.

Who is more stubborn? Me.

Who is cleaner?
I would say we are both pretty clean. Cody usually picks up the house when he gets home from work so it is nice and neat when I get home. Usually this means straightening the couch pillows, picking up the shoes we kicked off the night before, and febreezing the crap out of everything. Cody is kind of a Febreeze addict. The house is usually pretty easy to maintain. On the weekends we do laundry and actually clean, as in scrub, the house.

Who has more siblings? I guess you would say Cody does. He has one sister, one half brother, and two step brothers. I have two sisters and one brother. Cody is the oldest, I am the youngest.

Who wears the pants in the family? Hmmmmmm... I am not really sure who "wears the pants" so to speak. Cody always holds the remote - does that count? All I can say is that if the way Cody handles this puppy gives any insight into what kind of parent he will be, I am in for a treat!

Whose parents do you see more often? Now that we live in Texas we see Cody's mom the most out of all the parents. The Salt Lake parents we see about 3 or 4 times a year.

Who has more friends? Cody is definitely more social out of the two of us. He is always making new friends. I mean, who wouldn't want to be Cody's friend? He is the life of every social gathering!

Well, I feel that I have gushed about my amazing husband long enough! I would love to read answers to these questions from: Amy, Barbara, and Melanie - consider yourself tagged!

New addition

This weekend Madelyn and I went on a hike down Barton Creek Trail. It was nearly 80 degrees this weekend so it was perfect weather. Here are some pictures from our hike.

During our hike we couldn't help but notice all of the people with their dogs. We have been talking about getting a dog for a while, but after our hike yesterday we decided it was time to do it. We stopped by the dog adoption place on the way home "just to look".....

Well once we saw this 4 month old Shepherd/Lab mix we fell in love. He didn't jump on us, he wasn't rambunctious, and he was totally mellow. The perfect puppy.

We've had him for about 24 hours and he can already sit, shake, and play fetch. He's afraid of the stairs leading down to our apartment and can't do it by himself - we have to carry him! And, we'll have to crate train him for a while. Here are some pictures of our new pup..... Rocky. We wanted to give him a name that reminded us of Utah and Rocky (as in the mountains... not the Mayor or the Boxer) seemed perfect.
