It hailed tonight... GIANT hail. The cars that were out on the street were damaged and we were lucky none of the racquetball sized hail hit the windows!
Craziness!

South by Southwest
(This post is filled with links.. if you're interested they will take you to different songs from the artists listed)
This year Madelyn and I attended the South by Southwest music conference here in town. The best part of the weekend is that everything was free! Our awesome friend Lorena is some sort of free SXSW party expert... she sent us invitations everyday to different parties... all we had to do was RSVP! Once we were in the parties everything was free...free drinks, free food, and FREE music. This weekend we saw the reunion of American Analog Set (a band I love), Peter, Bjorn and John, Kanye West, Common and Erykah Badu. Amazing...
Here are the pictures of our adventures at SXSW!
On Thursday I took a little time off work to go downtown and enjoy the festival. Unfortunately, Madelyn had to work and go to class. Luckily Lorena was nice enough to let me tag along with her. They were handing out free custom t-shirts at one venue, so Lorena and I stood in line for them, but here's the catch. You had to spend 2 minutes in a photo booth and Ray Ban can use these pictures at any time. Lorena and I wanted those t-Shirts so we went in the photo booth together to expedite the process.... pretty funny pictures.

This is Madelyn in line for her wristband to Fader Fort, which hosted the Peter, Bjorn and John Show as well as the Kanye show. The Kanye show was a big rumor at the festival... the venue didn't announce it until a few hours before the show, so we were glad we already heard the rumor, had our wristbands and were in line!
Waiting in line.... again. This time for American Analog Set, one of my favorites. They've been broken up for a while and this was their reunion show.

We had a great time at the festival and I'm planning on taking full advantage of it next year! We're lucky to live in a place that has this type of thing... it's just so much fun! We even had time to take the dogs to the dog park... it really was a great weekend!

Later Thursday I caught Juliette Lewis (yes, the actress) playing with her band. They were like a really hard rock band... let me tell you, that Juliette Lewis has a lot of energy! Besides Juliette Lewis this was the place of my only celebrity sighting... Randy from My Name is Earl was there to see the show.

Inside the American Analog Set show.... we scored some actual seats!
Great view for American Analog Set!
Between shows on Friday we went so the American Apparel Flea Market... all their clothes were like 4 bucks. We're not really American Apparel fans, but we are fans of cheap clothes. We walked away with some really great stuff.
Later that night we saw Peter, Bjorn and John. This is Madelyn and Lorena waiting for the show... again, we scored a resting place!
That's Peter, Bjorn and John on stage.
Saturday rolled around and we took a break from the festival to go and buy a car, but we made it back downtown to see Kanye West! FOR FREE! This was definitely a memorable concert.

Upgrade!
This weekend in the middle of all the SXSW craziness Madelyn and I bought a new car...
Some of you may say, "Didn't you just BUY a car"?
Yes, we did... but a quick story:
When our beloved Subaru got totaled we only had one week to find a new car before we lost the rental car that the insurance company gave us. At the time Madelyn worked until 7 every night, so that left one hour every night to try and find a car. We ended up with the Saturn VUE, which we loved, but we both agreed when we bought it that it wasn't a long term car. Well, for a number of reasons we have upped our search for a new car the past few months. Madelyn has her dream car she wants, a charcoal Volvo XC-90. Obviously, that's a little out of a our price range, so we continued the search anyway. We looked at Honda CRVs, newer Saturn VUEs, Mazda CX-7s, etc. (while all the time searching the Internet for a great price on an XC-90)... basically, at this point, we can tell you every make and model of any car on the road. Well, all of our dedication paid off... we actually found a great deal on an XC-90.... and to top it off... it's charcoal. Not only that, but it has leather interior, a sunroof, three rows of seats (the third folds down), and a DVD player! We went in Saturday, traded in the VUE and drove away in an XC-90!
Some of you might be saying, "Did Cody and Madelyn win the lottery?" No, we didn't, it's a 2005 (older), so it's got a few miles... so, it's not brand new or anything. But a Volvo should last forever (we're hoping). The best part? Our monthly car payments remain the same! That's right, we traded in the VUE for an XC-90 and we get to pay the same amount each month. I'm so glad we never gave up! We just searched and searched for MONTHS and finally found a great deal on our dream car (it had only been on the lot for 4 days!). Anyway, here are some pictures of the new car!
Now that we own a Volvo we are officially these people:

Mayfield Park
This weekend we met Jessica and Lorena at Mayfield Park to check out the gardens they have. The gardens are full of peacocks! They were everywhere! It was a wonderful day, and I took advantage of the picture taking possibilities!
Madelyn and I are going to do some redecorating at our house... and I'm planning on using some of these pictures. We might make them really big, or stretch them over a canvas....
These are just a sample of the picutes I took at the park and then modified. I have more, but you'll get the general idea.

We're wild and crazy
Our friends are amazing for so many different reasons, but one thing I appreciate is them getting us out of the house! It's so easy just to stay in and watch a movie and I'm glad we have a group that can get us out and about. We have such a cool city and we need to take advantage!
So, Friday night we all met for a Madelyn planned Happy Hour for 2 dollar appetizers. Since the restaurant was close to our house and it was 80 degrees outside we arrived by bicycle. It seemed like a great idea at the time, and we really enjoyed our ride there, but we didn't seem to remember that it gets dark. So, luckily Jarrett was nice enough to transport our bikes in his car.
We then got all dressed up and met everyone up at Beauty Bar for some dancing. Yeah, that's right... dancing. I was never one for dancing, but our group of friends makes it really fun. So we danced, and danced, and danced... and then all of the sudden it was 2:00am. We didn't get to bed until 3:00am! I don't remember the last time we stayed out that late, but we had a blast. Beauty Bar is a really cool place, the inside looks like a prom from the 1960's. They have a Disco ball, cool sparkle bright colored paint everywhere, and a lady in the corner giving manicures... I'm a fan, although according to the man code I don't think I'm supposed to admit that. It's one of those places men secretly like, but their not supposed to admit it. Whoops.
Here's the ladies at the pre-dancing meet-up!
Here is a picture of me doing my signature dance move... I only have one. Jarrett on the other hand it able to get down AND keep his beverage from spilling. I have a lot to learn.
They also have the old hair dryers... which provides lots of picture taking opportunities.
This is Jonathan and Jessica gossiping.
I had to stand on an elevated platform (usually reserved for women who like the attention) to take this picture.
Jonathan looks pissed, Jessica is winking at me, and Madelyn looks really surprised. There is a lot of emotion in this picture.
The weekend fun didn't stop at Beauty Bar... there will be more pictures from our fun Saturday in the next blog post.
