San Antonio trip...

Last weekend I took Madelyn on a surprise getaway an hour away from our lives in San Antonio. Just a nice two day mini-vacation. I told her to have her overnight bag ready and then left everything a secret.

There were some complications in my planning. The hotels in San Antonio were giving me the run around... I was looking for a room with a view of the river. All Hotels were either full, or charging nearly $300 a night. I didn't let this road block (I obviously watch the Amazing Race) stop me, I know a man who has the Marriott hotel in the palm of his hand... they will do anything for him. That man is Madelyn's dad. If you've seen "Up in the Air" then you know they type of travel Robert (Madelyn's dad) puts in (luckily he doesn't have to lay people off). Unfortunately, I found out I'm a bad son in law. I didn't have any of Madelyn's family phone numbers! So, a quick visit to Vonage.com to look over our phone bill and I got the number I needed. A quick phone call to Robert and all of the sudden that Marriot that sent me away was rolling out the red carpet! It was amazing!

We spent Saturday roaming around San Antonio's El Mercado, which is a giant Spanish market. Madelyn was excited because she finally got a tortilla warmer. We had lunch at the famous La Tierra Mexican restaurant, and had a nice afternoon roaming the large market.

After that it was to the hotel where we accidentally took a two hour nap.... that happens sometimes. After our nap we went to do some more shopping and went to this crazy burger and nacho place. I love both of those items so much, so a place that specializes in both?!? When can I move to San Antonio?! The burger was delicious, the nachos were great... a t-shirt was bought. We then came back to the hotel for some swimming and sauna. Madelyn has a much high tolerance for the Sauna than I do. I found out I'm a sauna wimp. Then, Madelyn beat me three games in a row in ping pong. ouch. I blame the sauna and my crappy paddle. A rematch will be happening soon!

The next mourning we went to a beautiful brunch place called Gunether House. It's this house that sits on the property of a Mill that makes all sorts of wonderful breads. Honestly, it was the best breakfast I've ever had. Hands down.

We then went to a really beautiful art museum called the McNay. I honestly don't remember once piece of art I saw because I was completely memorized by the architecture and tile of this old mansion. (see pictures)

After the museum we headed back home...mini vacation over. Back to work. Responsibility. ugh! We had an amazing time... enjoy the pictures and a BIG thank to Mr Marriot himself.... Robert!

Sugar can't get in the car...

For those of you who have met Sugar you know just how big she is, not fat, or thick, just tall and long. When we take her to the park she jumps over large rocks, flights of stairs, other dogs...

But for some reason, she will NOT jump into the back of the car. Rocky, leaps into the back of the car without a running start. Sugar, gets her two front paws up, turns and looks at you, and demands assistance.

Our neighbor-friends once heard us talking about this and they couldn't believe it. I told them, if they get Sugar to jump into the back of the car I'll give them 10 dollars. So, at 11:00pm at night we went to our house, opened the back of the car, and for about 30 minutes tried to get Sugar to jump in the back of the car. We laughed as out neighbors used every trick in the book, running with her, enticing her with the best treats you can find, we even watch out neighbor Mike try and show her how it's done.

So, now we have a 95 pound dog who can't/refuses to get in the back of the car by herself. We've told this story to some...but now, we've got the video evidence to go with it:
